— A digital marketing apprentice program is taking shape in Alabama, as the state’s Legislature votes to expand its role in online marketing.
The new law, introduced Tuesday, will give digital marketers an additional incentive to reach out to people who have trouble navigating the state.
“We need people to be able to reach people, and it’s about reaching out and engaging with people and connecting them with people,” said Tuscannon-Birmingham Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kevin O’Keefe.
The digital marketing program is expected to be one of many initiatives in the coming years in the state, with lawmakers aiming to add as many as 20 new businesses to the state economy.
In the past, lawmakers have expanded digital marketing programs.
In 2016, lawmakers passed a bill allowing businesses to apply for the Tuscalla Digital Marketing Program, which allows the state to invest up to $300,000 for a digital marketing business, according to the Alabama Business Council.
The legislation is now headed to the governor’s desk, and the Chamber of Business has not yet been able to discuss details of the program.
The Chamber hopes to see more businesses start out with the program, which will be available to businesses that are in the early stages of their digital marketing endeavors.
“There’s definitely a lot of momentum here, and there’s some very good ideas out there, but it’s going to be a process,” O’keefe said.
The digital program will offer digital marketing companies an incentive to connect with people.
In addition to the digital marketing grants, the program will help with hiring and training, according the chamber.
“As digital marketing evolves and people get better at it, it’ll be much more attractive to hire them,” Okeefe added.
The Tuscallans digital marketing company, C3, will help recruit the next generation of digital marketers and create opportunities for them to thrive.
C3 was founded in 2016 and has now hired more than 20 digital marketers, according O’Keefe.
C2, a new digital marketing startup, has been created to help connect people to the people who need their help, O’Reilly said.
The chamber is also working with an Alabama Business Chamber board member, to help them craft a statewide digital marketing strategy, which they hope will create more jobs and boost the state overall.
